Welcome to the Kidney Immunology Laboratory

Our Kidney Immunology Laboratory is an academic research laboratory focusing on basic science and translational research. We are devoted to the better understanding of cellular and molecular mechanisms that are associated with tissue injury, inflammation and fibrosis, and to identify potential treatment targets for acute and chronic kidney diseases and related complications.  

The Kidney Immunology Laboratory was setup in 1992 as part of the Division of Nephrology at the LMU Hospital Munich, which is among the largest and most renowned hospitals in Germany. Our research unit is located at the inner-city campus at Goethestr. 31 with laboratory space distributed over two floors, while the clinical units are situated at the LMU Hospital at the inner-city campus (Ziemssenstr. 5) and the campus in Großhadern (Marchioninistr. 15).  

The research projects centered around these topics are currently conducted by five independent research groups (Anders Lab, Lech Lab, Steiger Lab, Vielhauer Lab, and Nelson Lab) broadly networking within the LMU as well as with national and international research groups, to make sure that the latest advances in the field are used for translation into patient care.
