This year's "Junge Niere" will be in Munich from the 28th til 29th of June 2024, and hosted by the LMU Hospital Munich, Renal Division and organized by PD Dr. Stefanie Steiger. We will kick-off our meeting with a keynote lecture by Prof. Rafael Kramann from the RWTH Aachen on June 28th and continue with our scientific program and networking on June 29th.
The invitation letter and the registration form will be soon available on the DGfN website and circulated around via email. Registration deadline is the 1st of May.

We are happy to showcase the first and only comprehensive up-to-date book on Pedriatric Nephropathology written by Helen Liapis. The book covers the following contents: Normal and abnormal human kidney development, Glomerular diseases, Tubulointerstitial diseases, Vascular diseases, Infectious diseases, Cystic diseases, Kidney tumors, and Transplant pathology. It will be in print soon.
The article "SGLT2 inhibition requires reconsideration of fundamental paradigms in chronic kidney disease, ‘diabetic nephropathy’, IgA nephropathy and podocytopathies with FSGS lesions published in NDT by the Anders Lab together with Anna Julie Peired and Paola Romagnani was selected as cover page. Check it out here.
One research project of the Steiger Lab investigating the effects of soluble uric acid on neutrophil function during sterile inflammation in cooperation with Hans-Joachim Anders and Markus Sperandio & team was published in the journal Blood in June 2022. Our image of neutrophils expressing the urate transporter SLC2A9/ Glut9 was selected as cover page. Check it out here as well as the commentary to our paper.
We are happy to have contributed to this Springer eBook entitled "Kidney Research - Experimental Protocols". The book chapter on "A Kidney-on-the-Chip model composed of primary human tubular, endothelial, and white blood cells" was written by Julian Marschner, Lucas Martin, Gregor Wilken, Maria Elena Melica, and Hans-Joachim Anders.
PD Dr. Stefanie Steiger received the Stanley Shaldon Award for Young Investigators in Translational Science by the European Renal Association (ERA) in Milan in 2023.
The DFG is funding the CRC TRR332 on „Neutrophil: origin, fate & function“ from July 2022 until mid 2026). In this research initiative Hans-Joachim Anders and Stefanie Steiger from our laboratory work together with colleagues from the universities of Münster, LMU Munich and Duisburg/ Essen.
Prof. Dr. med. Hans-Joachim Anders received
the Outstanding Basic Science Contributions to Nephrology award by the European Renal Association (ERA) in 2018.
Dr. Shrikant Ramesh Mulay, a previous principle investigator in our laboratory, was awarded with the Stanley Shaldon Award for Young Investigators by the European Renal Association (ERA) in 2018.
Our group leaders also serve as Guest Editors of Special Issues for scientific journals and we encourage scientists to submit their manuscripts to the following currently running issues:

Our medical student Karoline Rosenkranz received the Young Investigator Award (1st Prize) at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Innere Medizin (DGIM) congress 2023 in Mannheim and the "Junge Niere" 2023 in Regensburg for her doctoral thesis project.
Our medical student Juliane Anders received a poster prize at the German Congress of Nephrology (DGfN) 2023 in Berlin for her doctoral thesis project.
